Mitch Henderson

Head Coach

Mitch Henderson has led Princeton men’s basketball since 2011, guiding the Tigers into a sustained run of Ivy League and postseason success. Under his leadership, Princeton has captured multiple Ivy League championships, produced numerous All-Ivy honorees and Ivy League Players of the Year, and earned national attention with marquee wins over high-major opponents. The signature moment of his tenure came in 2022–23, when Princeton reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen as a No. 15 seed, highlighted by wins over No. 2 Arizona and No. 7 Missouri. Across his tenure, Henderson has also climbed the program’s coaching wins list, trailing only Hall of Famer Pete Carril. A Princeton alumnus (B.A. Economics, 1998), Henderson was a four-year starter for the Tigers and a key piece of teams that won Ivy titles and posted NCAA Tournament victories, including the memorable 1996 win over defending champion UCLA. After graduation, he was signed by the Atlanta Hawks, played professionally in Ireland, and then entered coaching—spending 11 seasons as an assistant at Northwestern before returning to Princeton as head coach. Beyond results, Henderson is recognized for player development, team culture, and community engagement, including work with Coaches vs. Cancer and ongoing involvement within the Princeton campus community.
