Mitchell Port is an assistant coach for the West Virginia University wrestling program in Morgantown, West Virginia, and entered his ninth season on the staff in 2026 after joining the program in 2018.
Since Port's arrival, West Virginia has produced steady postseason results and several notable individual performances. In 2026, the Mountaineers had six placewinners at the Big 12 Championships, sent six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, and produced one NCAA All-American. In 2025, the program had two Big 12 champions, five NCAA qualifiers, and one All-American. The 2024 season was one of the program's strongest in recent years, as West Virginia reached double-digit dual wins for the 18th time in school history and did so in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1990 and 1991. The team appeared regularly in the NWCA rankings, climbed as high as No. 17 in January, and finished the regular season ranked for the first time since 2005. West Virginia then scored 97.5 points at the Big 12 Championships, its best total since joining the league, matched its best conference finish since the Big 12 expanded in 2016, and placed 17th at the NCAA Championships with 31.5 points, the program's best national finish since 2004.
