Mike Van Iderstine is the associate head coach for field hockey at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine, joining the program in June 2026. Before arriving at UMaine, he spent two years with Field Hockey Canada as Pathway Lead and Coach, directing the organization's talent pathway strategy and overseeing five national training centers that served more than 200 athletes. His work included curriculum design, talent identification, training plans, individual performance planning, and competition management for Canada's national youth teams.
Van Iderstine has also coached with several Canadian national teams. He served as an assistant coach with the U21 Canadian Women's National Team, worked as a trainer with the Canadian Senior Women's National Team, was named head coach of the U18 Canadian Women's National Team in 2024, and contributed as an assistant coach and analyst with the U21 men's and women's national teams. At the university level, he has held assistant coaching positions at the University of Calgary and the University of British Columbia.
