Mike McGarry
Head Coach
Mike McGarry was named head coach of the UAB women’s golf program on July 30, 2025, and begins his first season leading the Blazers in 2025-26. He arrives in Birmingham following a highly successful six-year tenure at Division II Glenville State University, where he built one of the top programs in the Mountain East Conference. McGarry guided Glenville State to three consecutive MEC Championships from 2022-24 and earned 2023 MEC Coach of the Year honors. His teams compiled an impressive 311-148-2 overall record and established multiple school scoring records, including program-best 18-hole (293), 36-hole (596), and 54-hole (916) totals. His emphasis on performance consistency and player development positioned Glenville State as a conference powerhouse.
Beyond competitive success, McGarry’s programs have also excelled academically, with his teams posting a 3.4 GPA or higher in each of the last four years. Prior to Glenville State, he served as head boys golf coach at Lake Catholic High School, leading the program to a conference championship in 2017. McGarry also brings professional experience as a PGA Tour and senior-level caddie, including work at the Senior British Open and U.S. Senior Open. With 47 years of golf experience, McGarry combines competitive insight and leadership as he works to elevate UAB women’s golf. He has two children, Michael and Julia, both graduates of Glenville State.
