Mike Hampton is the head baseball coach at St. John's University in Queens, New York, a position he assumed on Jan. 9, 2020, after 18 seasons on Ed Blankmeyer's staff as the program's hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.
St. John's increased its win total in each of Hampton's first five seasons as head coach. The 2024 team finished 38-18-1, returned to the top of the BIG EAST, and won the conference tournament, earning the league's automatic NCAA berth. In his first postseason appearance as a head coach, Hampton led St. John's to the BIG EAST Tournament title with a championship-game win over Georgetown, giving the program its 10th conference crown. That season also brought the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance under Hampton and its first NCAA postseason victory since 2018, a 12-inning win over Penn. St. John's opened the year with a win at No. 2 Florida, the highest-ranked regular-season victory in program history, put together a 15-game unbeaten streak, and won 21 games at Jack Kaiser Stadium. The Red Storm went 14-7 in BIG EAST play, secured the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament, and Hampton's staff was recognized as the BIG EAST and ECAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
