Michael Seemann is the longtime head coach of the Portland State volleyball program, entering his 19th season leading the Vikings in 2025 and his 21st overall with the university. Since taking over the program in 2007, Seemann has built one of the most successful eras in school history, guiding the team to multiple Big Sky Conference championships and postseason appearances. Under his leadership, the Vikings reached their first NCAA Division I Tournament in 2008 and returned in 2010, while also capturing both the Big Sky regular-season and tournament titles in 2010. In 2021, Seemann led the program to its first Division I national postseason victory, earning Big Sky Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career.
Across his tenure, Seemann has compiled an impressive overall record of 282-241, including a strong mark in conference play, and has led the Vikings to eight 20-win seasons. His teams have consistently ranked among the top programs in the Big Sky, highlighted by five regular-season titles and two conference tournament championships. Known for emphasizing defense and serving, Seemann has coached numerous all-conference and award-winning players while overseeing significant individual and team statistical achievements. Prior to becoming head coach, he served as associate head coach at Portland State and held coaching roles at Oregon State, Mt. Hood Community College, and Northland College. A Portland State alumnus, Seemann has combined long-term program stability with sustained competitive success.
