Michael Rainbow
Assistant Volleyball Coach
Michael Rainbow enters his second season as an Assistant Volleyball Coach at Morgan State University in 2025, bringing more than 20 years of coaching experience across the collegiate, high school, and USA Volleyball (USAV) club levels. His extensive background reflects a deep commitment to athlete development, technical skill-building, and long-term competitive success. In addition to his role at Morgan State, Rainbow currently serves as the Head Coach, Technical Director, and Recruiting Coordinator for Columbia Volleyball Academy in Columbia, Maryland, where he oversees player development and collegiate recruiting initiatives.
A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Rainbow began his coaching career in 2000 at the club level after competing as a player in high school and college. His coaching résumé includes leadership roles with Virginia Elite, where he served as the Setting Technical Lead and 17U National Head Coach, and impactful stints at the high school level in Maryland. From 2013 to 2018, Rainbow was the Head Coach at Liberty High School in Eldersburg, Maryland, guiding the program to consecutive conference championships and a Regional Championship in 2015. His success earned him Carroll County Times Coach of the Year honors in both 2014 and 2015. He also coached at Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville prior to his tenure at Liberty. Rainbow has helped numerous athletes earn opportunities at institutions such as Towson, Lafayette, Tennessee, UMBC, Quinnipiac, Bucknell, UMES, Delaware, Liberty, Loyola, Morgan State, and Holy Family. He is also the founder and Head Coach of M2 Volleyball Training and remains active nationally as a guest coach at collegiate camps and clinics. Rainbow is an AVCA member and holds CAP I, IMPACT, and First Aid & CPR/AED certifications.
