Michael Helms
Head Coach
Michael Helms serves as the head coach of the Jacksonville State tennis program, overseeing all aspects of the Gamecocks’ NCAA Division I men’s and women’s tennis operations. In his role, Helms manages recruiting, player development, scheduling, and match preparation while fostering a competitive and academically focused team culture. His leadership emphasizes technical development, match strategy, and mental toughness, preparing student-athletes to compete at a high level within Conference USA and in non-conference competition.
As head coach, Helms is responsible for building and sustaining a program that reflects Jacksonville State’s commitment to excellence both on the court and in the classroom. He works closely with players to refine fundamentals, improve conditioning, and develop individualized match plans tailored to each opponent. In addition to coaching responsibilities, Helms oversees recruiting efforts aimed at identifying talented prospects who align with the program’s values and long-term goals. His comprehensive approach supports competitive growth while prioritizing academic achievement and personal development among his student-athletes.
