Michael Chaplin is the associate head coach for the Oregon State gymnastics program, entering his 29th season with the Beavers in 2026. After beginning his tenure as an assistant coach, he was promoted to associate head coach in 2005 and has since been instrumental in the program’s sustained success. Specializing in bars, vault, and floor, Chaplin has coached numerous All-Americans and helped Oregon State achieve top national finishes, including a sixth-place result at the NCAA Championships. His technical expertise has contributed to record-setting performances and the development of elite gymnasts, including Olympic medalist Jade Carey. Over the years, his event groups have consistently ranked among the nation’s best, showcasing both precision and competitive excellence.
Before joining Oregon State, Chaplin coached at Seattle Pacific and at the club level, gaining valuable experience in athlete development. As a gymnast, he was a two-time All-American at UCLA and a member of a national championship team, while also competing internationally as part of the U.S. Senior National Team. His background includes a Pac-10 title on still rings and participation in the Olympic Trials, reflecting a high level of competitive achievement. Known for his technical coaching and long-standing commitment to the program, Chaplin has played a key role in maintaining Oregon State’s reputation as a nationally competitive gymnastics program while mentoring student-athletes on and off the mat.
