Michael Burkhardt
Associate Head Coach
Michael Burkhardt serves as the associate head coach for the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s volleyball program and enters his third season on the Ducks’ staff after arriving on Castle Point in the winter of 2021. He initially joined the program following time spent as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, Adrian College. Burkhardt has played a key role in the rapid rise of the Stevens program, including serving as an integral member of the coaching staff during the Ducks’ 2023 NCAA Division III National Championship season. In recognition of his impact and potential as a young coach, he was selected as a recipient of the AVCA Thirty Under 30 Award in 2023.
As a collegiate student-athlete, Burkhardt enjoyed a highly decorated playing career at Adrian College. A four-year starter and two-year team captain, he finished his career ranked fourth in program history in kills, third in hitting percentage, and first in solo blocks, block assists, and total blocks. He was a four-time Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League All-Academic Team selection and earned Dean’s List honors five times. Burkhardt was also one of just 15 Division III and NAIA student-athletes chosen to compete overseas in Italy through the Beyond Sports program. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science in 2019 and a Master of Science degree in athletic training one year later. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Burkhardt holds multiple professional certifications and is an active member of the National Athletic Training Association, bringing a strong sports science and athlete-care background to the Stevens program.
