Mel Stubblefield is the Head Coach of the Bellevue College women’s basketball program, entering his 12th season for the 2025–26 campaign. He was appointed to the role in April 2014 after serving as an assistant coach under Bellevue men’s basketball coach Jeremy Eggers during the 2013–14 season. Stubblefield made an immediate impact in his first year, guiding the Bulldogs to a 22–10 overall record and a 12–2 mark in league play, establishing the team as a consistent contender in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC). His leadership continued to elevate the program, highlighted by a standout 2018 season in which Bellevue captured the North Region title, finished 22–9 overall, and advanced to the NWAC Final Four. That year, Stubblefield was recognized as Coach of the Year for his accomplishments.
Before joining Bellevue College, Stubblefield built a strong coaching foundation at the high school level, including time at Bellevue High School where he helped transform the girls program into a league champion and academic standout. The team earned the WIAA 3A state academic award in 2012 and achieved a 25–4 record with a fifth-place state finish in 2013. Known for his defensive philosophy, Stubblefield emphasizes aggressive, proactive play, believing that strong defense drives offensive success and championship results. His coaching background also includes experience with Olympic High School, AAU basketball, and elite training camps such as those at Stanford University. As a player, he was a standout at Davis High School in Yakima, Yakima Valley College, and Montana State University–Northern, earning multiple all-conference honors throughout his career.
