Melisa Shock
Head Softball Coach
Melisa Shock is the Head Softball Coach at Morgan State University, bringing more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience and a proven record of program development to the Bears. She was hired following a highly successful tenure as head coach at Barton College, where she led the Bulldogs to unprecedented success, including 81 wins over a three-year span—the most in school history for any comparable period. Under her leadership, Barton earned its first-ever NCAA Division II regional ranking and made three consecutive conference tournament Final Four appearances, while setting multiple single-season program records across offensive and pitching categories. Shock’s teams consistently produced All-Conference, All-Region, Academic All-American, and All-Tournament honorees, reflecting her balanced emphasis on performance and academics.
Prior to Barton, Shock served as an assistant coach at Valparaiso University, where she played a key role in dramatically increasing the program’s win total and improving pitching effectiveness. She also spent two seasons at Frostburg State University as Associate Head Coach, guiding the pitching staff to top conference rankings while helping elevate the program’s defensive standards and academic outcomes. As a former standout student-athlete, Shock was a pitcher and team captain at Wittenberg University, leading the Tigers to 60 wins and a deep postseason run in the North Coast Athletic Conference. At Morgan State, she is focused on building a winning culture rooted in player development, academic excellence, and long-term program growth, with the goal of elevating Bear Softball to new competitive heights.
