Meghan Romero is an assistant coach for the Portland State softball program, entering her fourth season with the Vikings in 2026 after joining the staff in July 2022. She works primarily with the team’s infielders and has quickly made a significant impact on both player development and team performance. In her first season, Romero helped guide three infielders—Emily Johansen, Maddie Thompson, and Olivia Dean—to First Team All-Big Sky honors, with Johansen earning conference Player of the Year recognition. Under her guidance, the Vikings led the Big Sky Conference in both fielding percentage and team batting average during the 2023 season, highlighting her influence on both defensive and offensive success.
Before arriving at Portland State, Romero spent three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Colgate University. There, she played a key role in improving the program’s defensive consistency and offensive production, including a school-record fielding percentage in 2021 and a notable rise in batting performance. She also helped lead the Raiders to multiple Patriot League Tournament appearances and a return to 20-win form. As a former standout infielder at Colgate, Romero earned All-Patriot League honors in her senior season and was recognized for her academic achievements as well. Her experience as both a high-performing student-athlete and a developing coach has made her an important contributor to Portland State’s continued growth.
