Megan Shoniker is the head coach of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team in Durham, New Hampshire, a position she assumed on April 24, 2024, as the eighth head coach in program history. In her first season with the Wildcats, New Hampshire posted its first double-digit win total since 2019-20 and reached postseason play for the first time since 2021-22. The team also earned its first America East tournament victory since 2011-12, led the conference in offensive rebounds, ranked second in total rebounds, and finished fourth in scoring defense. Under Shoniker, sophomore guard Eva DeChent was named America East Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team all-conference recognition, marking the program's first all-conference selection since 2019-20.
Before taking over at New Hampshire, Shoniker spent five seasons at the University of Rhode Island, her alma mater, including the final two as associate head coach under Tammi Reiss. Rhode Island reached the Atlantic 10 Championship game in 2023-24, its first appearance in the title game since 2003 and only the third in program history. The 2022-23 team set a school record with 27 wins, shared the Atlantic 10 regular-season title for the first time, and advanced to the WNIT Super 16 after winning two postseason games. Rhode Island also made back-to-back WNIT appearances in 2021-22 and 2022-23, a first for the program. Over Shoniker's five seasons on staff, the Rams produced three All-Atlantic 10 honorees, including Sophie Phillips, the program's single-season leader in 3-pointers. Rhode Island became known for its defense during that period, leading the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense in each of Shoniker's final two seasons as defensive coordinator.
