Matt Wessinger
Hitting Coach
Matt Wessinger joined Duke University ahead of the 2026 baseball season as Hitting Coach, arriving from Wake Forest University where he spent the prior three seasons. During his tenure at Wake Forest, Wessinger was instrumental in setting new program records in regular-season wins, ACC wins, ACC series wins, postseason wins, and overall wins. Under his direction, Wake Forest achieved a program-high fielding percentage of .979 and set a program record in runs scored with 591.
Before Wake Forest, Wessinger played a pivotal role in Hofstra University’s historic 2022 season, where the Pride posted 30 wins and captured the CAA championship before making their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Wessinger is a St. John’s University alumnus (2013) and was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. At Duke, his focus as Hitting Coach will include refining hitters’ techniques, advancing offensive consistency, and supporting the newly assembled coaching staff in elevating Duke’s baseball program within the ACC.
