Matt Thurin is the special teams coordinator and safeties coach for Boston College football in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, entering his seventh season with the program. He joined Boston College in 2020 after five seasons at Ohio State, where he worked with the safeties and special teams as a defensive quality control coach and spent one year on Jeff Hafley's staff. Thurin was part of three straight Big Ten championship teams with the Buckeyes and was on staffs that won the 2019 Rose Bowl, the 2018 Cotton Bowl, and the 2016 Fiesta Bowl.
At Boston College, Thurin has overseen several strong special teams performances while also coaching the safeties during his first four seasons. In 2025, kicker Luca Lombardo finished third nationally in field goal percentage after converting 16 of 17 attempts, including a 52-yard make, and was perfect on extra points. That same season, Boston College ranked sixth in the country and second in the ACC in punt return defense, allowing only three yards per return. The Eagles' top three tacklers in 2025 were safeties KP Price, Omar Thornton, and Carter Davis. Price earned second-team All-ACC recognition after posting 94 tackles, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery, while Thornton added 82 tackles, four forced fumbles, two sacks, and an interception, and Davis finished with 59 tackles.
