Matt Swope is the head baseball coach at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, a position he assumed on June 12, 2023. A Maryland alumnus and longtime member of the program, he became the ninth head coach in the 134-year history of Terrapins baseball after spending more than two decades connected to the school as a player and coach.
Before taking over the program, Swope served on the Maryland staff for 14 seasons. He was director of operations from 2013 to 2017, an assistant coach from 2017 to 2022, and associate head coach in 2022 and 2023. During that broader run on staff, Maryland reached six NCAA Regionals and two Super Regionals. The Terrapins also captured consecutive Big Ten regular-season titles in 2022 and 2023 and won the 2023 Big Ten Tournament championship.
