Matt Swope
Head Coach
Matt Swope, a Maryland native and former Terrapin outfielder (1999–2002), was named head baseball coach at the University of Maryland in June 2023. As a player, he ranked among the program’s all-time leaders in hits and runs before a brief professional career in the minors and independent leagues. Since rejoining Maryland in 2013, Swope has helped guide the program to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and record-breaking offensive seasons. After serving as director of operations, assistant coach, and associate head coach, he became the ninth head coach in program history. In his first two seasons, he led the Terps to strong showings highlighted by wins over nationally ranked opponents.
