Matt Layman is the tight ends coach for the University of Massachusetts Amherst football program in Amherst, Massachusetts, and the 2026 season marks his eighth year on the Minutemen staff. He has led the tight ends since 2023 after previously serving Massachusetts in offensive analyst and graduate assistant roles, and he also worked with the offensive line, quarterbacks, and tight ends after joining the program in March 2019.
His recent tight end groups have included Josiah Johnson, a Second Team All-Independent selection in 2022, and Gino Campiotti, who earned 2023 Phil Steele Postseason All-Independent Conference Second Team honors. Entering 2026, Layman's unit includes Reece Adkins, a 2026 Phil Steele Preseason MAC Third Team pick. He also was part of a 2023 offensive staff that significantly increased the team's point production from the previous season. In 2021, Layman worked with an offensive line that helped Ellis Merriweather become the first 1,000-yard rusher of the Minutemen's FBS era.
