Matthew Svoboda is an assistant coach for George Mason University's track and field program in Fairfax, Virginia, entering his first season with responsibility for the pole vault, high jump, and multi-events athletes. He joined George Mason in January 2026 after six years at Western Colorado University, where he began his collegiate coaching career in 2020 as the jumps and multi-events coach.
At Western Colorado, his athletes set five school records, earned three All-America honors, and qualified for the NCAA National Championships nine times, with more than 30 performances finishing among the top 10 marks in program history. Svoboda graduated magna cum laude from St. Ambrose University in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in history and competed in track and field for four years, earning all-conference honors twice in the heptathlon.
