Matthew Greely
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Matthew Greely joined the New Jersey Institute of Technology baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach in August 2021, bringing extensive Division I experience and a strong track record of player development. Since arriving in Newark, Greely has played a central role in NJIT’s offensive resurgence, helping guide the Highlanders to multiple deep runs in the America East Championship race. In his first three seasons with the program, NJIT finished within one game of the conference title twice and posted 26 wins in 2024, the second-most in program history.
Greely has overseen one of the most productive offensive periods in NJIT baseball history. During the 2024 season, the Highlanders set program records in home runs, hits, runs, RBIs, and doubles, highlighted by freshman Cade Ladehoff’s America East Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference campaign. Prior to NJIT, Greely spent five seasons at Coppin State, where he served as Associate Head Coach, pitching coach, and recruiting coordinator. His tenure marked the most successful stretch in program history, including back-to-back MEAC North titles and record-setting pitching performances. Greely’s coaching résumé also includes stops at Arizona Western College, Everett Community College, and the College of Idaho, along with three summers as pitching coach in the Alaska Baseball League. Over his career, more than 45 players he coached have been selected in the MLB Draft, including major leaguers Corbin Martin, Riley O’Brien, and Eli Morgan. Greely earned his bachelor’s degree in sports and fitness management from the College of Idaho and a master’s degree in secondary education while coaching in Alaska.
