Matt Figger has served as an assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts Amherst men's basketball program in Amherst, Massachusetts, since his hiring on May 21, 2024. He arrived at UMass after previous head coaching stops at UT Rio Grande Valley and Austin Peay, following extended time on Frank Martin's staffs at South Carolina and Kansas State.
Before joining UMass, Figger spent three seasons as head coach at UT Rio Grande Valley and four seasons at Austin Peay. At Austin Peay, he earned 2017-18 OVC Coach of the Year honors and posted a 76-51 overall record with a 49-25 mark in conference play. His teams produced back-to-back 20-win seasons, reached double-digit conference victories in each of his four years, and made a notable defensive improvement. He also coached several All-OVC players there, including two-time OVC Player of the Year Terry Taylor.
