Matt Dunn has been a key member of the Portland State men’s basketball coaching staff since joining the program in 2021 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2023. Known for his strong work ethic and player-centered approach, Dunn has played an integral role in recruiting, player development, and on-court strategy for the Vikings. Under his guidance, Portland State has continued to grow competitively within the Big Sky Conference, building on a foundation of defensive intensity and team cohesion. His ability to connect with student-athletes and contribute across multiple areas of the program has made him a trusted leader within head coach Jase Coburn’s staff.
Prior to Portland State, Dunn built an extensive coaching résumé across collegiate and junior college basketball. He spent three seasons at IUPUI and six years at Northern Arizona, where he contributed to one of the most successful seasons in program history, including a 23-win campaign and a postseason championship appearance. Earlier in his career, Dunn held roles at Memphis, Miami Dade College, and Southwestern Community College, gaining experience in recruiting, operations, and player development. His background also includes coaching at the high school and AAU levels, as well as professional sports operations experience. A graduate of Fort Hays State, Dunn brings more than a decade of diverse coaching experience and a deep passion for the game to the Portland State program.
