Matt Crispino
Head Coach
Matt Crispino is the head coach of Princeton University men’s swimming and diving, bringing a record of competitive excellence and academic leadership to DeNunzio Pool since his hiring in 2019. Under his direction, Princeton has reestablished itself as one of the Ivy League’s premier programs, earning consistent top finishes at the Ivy League Championships and achieving national recognition in the CSCAA Dual Meet Rankings. During the 2023–24 season, Crispino led the Tigers to an Ivy League Dual Meet Championship, an 8–3 overall record, and a second-place finish at the Ivy League Championships, with All-Ivy honors in eight events. His teams have combined depth with star performances, producing multiple first- and second-team All-Ivy selections across distance, individual medley, and freestyle events.
Crispino arrived at Princeton after a transformative tenure at William & Mary, where he built the Tribe into a Colonial Athletic Association powerhouse. While serving as Director of Swimming, his teams captured five consecutive CAA men’s championships through 2019 and added women’s conference titles as well. His athletes broke every men’s program record and accumulated hundreds of individual and relay best marks, along with conference awards, NCAA qualifiers, and Olympic Trials participants. Equally notable was his emphasis on academics and leadership, as his swimmers earned Scholar All-America honors, academic awards, and campus-wide recognition for service and achievement.
A graduate of William & Mary, Crispino was a team captain and MVP as a student-athlete and later returned to his alma mater to lead the program after coaching stops at Florida State, Army West Point, and Colgate. Known for blending performance-driven training with a strong educational mission, Crispino continues to guide Princeton swimming with a focus on competitive success, personal growth, and long-term program sustainability.
