Matt Colpoys is an assistant coach for George Washington University men's basketball in Washington, D.C., a position he has held since the 2023-24 season after joining the staff as director of recruiting in September 2022. He has also served as the team's co-offensive coordinator, and George Washington's offense has improved markedly during his time on staff. In each of his first three seasons, the team topped 1.07 points per possession in adjusted offensive efficiency, a level the program had not reached since 2016-17. The Revolutionaries averaged 76.8 points per game in 2023-24, finished second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring and third in 3-point percentage, and set a school record with 287 made 3-pointers. Under Colpoys' watch, James Bishop IV made 71 threes in 2023-24 after Brendan Adams hit 74 in 2022-23.
Before moving into the assistant coach role, Colpoys handled recruiting duties that included evaluating prospects, managing the recruiting database, communicating with recruits, and organizing campus visits. He was part of the effort to sign Darren Buchanan Jr., who later earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie recognition, and Jacoi Hutchinson, identified by 247Sports as George Washington's highest-rated high school recruit since 2000.
