Matt Blue
Assistant Coach
Matt Blue brings a global and collegiate coaching pedigree to his role as assistant coach, where he supports the men’s basketball program with player development, scouting and advanced coaching insights. Blue’s coaching journey features eight years working for the National Basketball Association development initiatives in Asia and Australia, including serving as a player development coach at the NBA Global Academy at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. During that time he worked with top-tier talent and international players, expanding his coaching vocabulary and global network.
Before his international work, Blue gained eight years of collegiate assistant-coaching experience at institutions like Lafayette College, where he worked under legendary coach Fran O’Hanlon, the University of Hartford, and Susquehanna University. He also played at the Division III level for the St. Lawrence University Saints, where he served as team captain and shot 43 % from three-point range and 82 % from the free-throw line over his four-year career. Blue graduated from St. Lawrence in 2007 with a B.A. in English. With this blend of international basketball exposure, development-centre experience, and collegiate assistant work, Matt Blue is well positioned to help elevate the men’s basketball program at University of Mary Washington — working with student-athletes to grow on the court and in life.
