Matt Bersano is an assistant coach for the Oregon State men’s soccer program and a former standout goalkeeper for the Beavers. He returned to Corvallis following a nine-year professional playing career, primarily in Major League Soccer. Bersano most recently played for Austin FC during the 2023 and 2024 seasons and previously spent several years with the San Jose Earthquakes organization. His professional journey also included time with the Seattle Sounders and Reno 1868 FC, where he gained valuable experience at multiple levels of the game. His transition into coaching has allowed him to bring a professional perspective to player development and team preparation.
During his collegiate career at Oregon State from 2011 to 2014, Bersano was one of the program’s top goalkeepers, earning All-Pac-12 honors twice and receiving four All-Academic selections. He remains prominent in the program’s record books, holding the single-season saves record and ranking among the top five in career saves, shutouts, and goals-against average. In addition to his playing career, Bersano has gained coaching experience at several levels, including roles at Southwestern University, UC Santa Cruz, and as a player-coach with Reno 1868 FC. His strong ties to Oregon State and extensive playing and coaching background make him a valuable contributor to the Beavers’ continued success.
