Matt Azevedo is the Mert '67 and Joanne '69 Hill Head Coach of Wrestling at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and entered his 15th season leading the Dragons after being hired in April 2011. The California Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee, honored in 2020, is the eighth head coach in program history. He arrived at Drexel after assistant coaching stops at Cornell and Cal Poly and has overseen the program's rise in the EIWA and onto the national stage.
Under Azevedo, Drexel earned the first USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll national ranking in school history and spent six weeks in the Top 25 in 2016-17. The following season, the Dragons closed the regular season ranked in the top 25 of four polls: USA Today/NWCA DI Coaches, FloWrestling, InterMat tournament, and InterMat dual. His teams have produced 113 dual-meet victories, including five seasons with at least 10 wins, and he coached 44 NCAA Championship qualifiers in his first 14 years at the helm.
