Marshall Wood
Assistant Coach
Marshall Wood serves as an assistant coach for the men’s tennis team at the University of Mary Washington (UMW), contributing to a program with a strong Division III footprint under longtime head coach Todd Helbling. He joined the UMW athletics department in a coaching capacity, combining his enthusiasm for the sport with the region’s tennis community and collegiate recruiting efforts. His position involves supporting the day-to-day development of student-athletes, assisting with practice planning, match preparation, and helping maintain the standards of the University’s tennis tradition.
Prior to his current role, Wood’s background includes active engagement in tennis and golf at the high-school and collegiate levels in Fredericksburg, Virginia, building a local network and enthusiasm for racket sports. While his public coaching biography at UMW is brief, his appointment reinforces the program’s continuity and commitment to cultivating talent both on and off the court. His work supports UMW’s men’s tennis team in their conference and national aspirations while aligning with the university’s broader academic and athletic mission.
