Mark Freeman
Assistant Coach
Mark Freeman joined the coaching staff of the UCLA Bruins women’s gymnastics program in 2024, beginning his tenure in Los Angeles after an eight-year run on the men’s side. In his first season with the Bruins, he helped guide the program to an undefeated Big Ten regular-season and conference-championship titles, followed by a second-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Championships. His work with the vault squad contributed to a No. 7 national ranking, and his involvement with the floor team supported their No. 1 national ranking and season highs of 49.800. Freeman coached standout athlete Brooklyn Moors to the NCAA floor exercise title, and also helped both Moors and Jordan Chiles secure perfect 10s and Big Ten titles under his direction.
Prior to UCLA, Freeman served as assistant coach for the men’s gymnastics team at Stanford University from 2019-24, during which he was a four-time West Region Assistant Coach of the Year and part of five national-Coaching-Staff-of-the-Year selections. While at Stanford he coached athletes who competed on the 2024 U.S. Olympic team and helped amass 76 All-American honours. Before that, he was on staff at University of California, Berkeley from 2017-19. As a competitive gymnast, Freeman represented Great Britain’s Senior National Team from 2001-04, competed at the 2002 & 2003 World Championships, then competed collegiately at UC Berkeley from 2004-08, earning a degree in Sociology in 2008. After graduation he performed and created for Cirque du Soleil for five years before transitioning fully into coaching and consultancy through his private venture.
