Marco Matteucci
Head Coach
Marco Matteucci enters his fifth season as the head coach of the NJIT men’s tennis program in 2025–26 and has overseen the most successful stretch in program history. During the 2024–25 season, Matteucci guided the Highlanders to an 18–4 overall record, including a perfect 10–0 mark at home inside the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility for the second consecutive year. NJIT climbed as high as No. 70 in the ITA national rankings and finished No. 5 in the Northeast Region, while reaching the Southland Conference championship match for the second straight season. That year also saw Pablo Perez Ramos become the first player in program history to earn an ITA singles national ranking.
Matteucci’s breakthrough season came in 2023–24, when he led NJIT to the Southland Conference title and the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Highlanders achieved a program-best 11–0 start, reached a top-75 ITA national ranking for the second time in school history, and finished the season undefeated at home. Prior to NJIT, Matteucci spent two seasons as head coach of both the men’s and women’s tennis programs at La Salle, following assistant coaching stops at Arizona, Baylor, Columbia, and UT Arlington. His teams at Baylor captured Big 12 regular season and tournament titles in 2014, while at UT Arlington he guided conference championship runs on both the men’s and women’s sides. A former standout student-athlete at the University of West Florida, Matteucci won two NCAA Division II national championships and was part of teams ranked No. 1 nationally. A native of Queens, New York, he has also worked with the USTA and the Evert Tennis Academy, bringing elite competitive and analytical experience to NJIT.
