Student Assistant Coach
Makkijha Brown serves as a Student Assistant Tennis Coach at Morgan State University, where she supports the men’s and women’s tennis programs under the direction of Head Coach Matthew Townes and the Bears’ tennis coaching staff. In this role, Brown assists with daily practices, match preparation, and team operations, while gaining hands-on experience in collegiate coaching and program management. Her position reflects Morgan State’s commitment to developing future leaders in athletics through mentorship and experiential learning.
As a student assistant, Brown brings a player-centered perspective to the program, helping bridge communication between coaches and student-athletes while reinforcing team culture, accountability, and competitive standards. She contributes to practice organization, on-court drills, and match-day logistics, all while balancing her academic responsibilities as a Morgan State student. Through her involvement with the tennis program, Brown is developing foundational coaching skills and an understanding of the demands of Division I athletics.
