Before Clemson, Carter was an assistant coach at Mercer, where she was part of a staff that won the 2021 Southern Conference championship. As a player at Penn State, she graduated with high honors in 2019 after helping the Nittany Lions reach consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances in 2016 and 2017. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2016, earned IWLCA All-America honors in 2017 and 2018, and served as a team captain. Carter also has a family connection to UConn, where her sister Morgan played from 2021 to 2024 and was a captain in 2023-24.
