Kyra Elzy
Assistant Coach
Kyra Elzy joined the women’s basketball program at Duke University in the summer of 2024 as an assistant coach. In her first season with the Blue Devils, she helped guide the team to a 29-8 overall record, a 14-4 mark in ACC play, an ACC Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight. Elzy’s expertise in recruiting and player development has already made an impact—she worked directly with players who earned major conference honors including All-ACC Defensive Team and All-ACC First or Second Team designations. At Duke, she contributes to both the on-court advancement of the team and the strengthening of the program’s recruiting pipeline.
Prior to her arrival at Duke, Elzy served as head coach of the University of Kentucky from 2020-24 and compiled a long track record of success as an assistant and associate head coach at Kentucky (2008-12; 2016-20) and at her alma mater the University of Tennessee (2012-16). During those years, she helped recruit and develop top-tier talent, and her players achieved multiple SEC honors and WNBA draft selections. As a player, Elzy was part of two national championship teams at Tennessee (1997, 1998) and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in cultural studies and education with an emphasis in sports psychology.
