Kyle Smith is the head coach of the University of Massachusetts Amherst men's lacrosse program in Amherst, Massachusetts. A former UMass attackman, he was named the fifth head coach in program history on August 29, 2025, after returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach in 2021 and moving up to associate head coach in 2024. The 2026 season marks his first year leading the program and his fifth season back on the UMass staff.
Before taking over at UMass, Smith spent seven years at Merrimack, where he was part of a highly successful run for the men's lacrosse program. He served as an assistant coach from 2014 through 2019 and was elevated to associate head coach in August 2019. Merrimack won two Division II national championships during his time there and also reached the national semifinals twice and the championship game once before those titles. The program added a Northeast-10 tournament championship, a share of a regular-season conference title, and five straight New England championships from 2015 through 2019. Merrimack went 78-14 across his five Division II seasons, including an 11-3 record in NCAA tournament play, and later made the transition to Division I. In the program's first two Division I seasons, Smith coached multiple all-conference honorees and all-rookie selections as Merrimack finished at .500 in its second year at that level.
