Kibwe Johnson has served as throws coach for the University of Maryland's track and field/cross country program in College Park, Maryland, since his hiring was announced in September 2025. He joined Maryland after coaching at Southeastern Louisiana and also has served with USA Track & Field as the men's team head coach and throws coach for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
Johnson came to Maryland with an accomplished background as both a coach and elite hammer thrower. Before arriving in College Park, he was director of track and field and head coach at SPIRE Academy from 2021 to 2024 and worked as an assistant track and field coach for throws at IMG Academy from 2015 to 2020. He also has held leadership roles with USA Track & Field, including service on the board of directors as an Athletes Commission representative alternate in 2023 and election as the Athletes Commission director of athlete services in 2024.
