Kelly Swiney
Head Baseball Coach
Kelly Swiney begins his sixth season as the head baseball coach at the University of Mary Washington. In 2023, he guided the Eagles back to the NCAA Tournament, and the team was nationally ranked in both 2023 and 2024, defeating 13 teams that advanced to NCAA tournaments over those two seasons. Prior to joining UMW in 2020, Swiney spent nine seasons as head coach at his alma mater, Allegheny College, where in eight of those nine years he led the team to winning seasons. His 2017 group posted a 23-17 mark, marking the program’s fifth straight 20-win campaign. During his time at Allegheny, he earned his 200th career victory and coached multiple All-Americans, NCAC Players of the Year and Pitchers of the Year.
University of Mary Washington
As a player, Swiney was a three-year starter in the outfield for the Gators at Allegheny. He finished with a .356 career batting average and ranks fourth on the school’s all-time list for doubles in a season with 17. He was named to the All-NCAC Second Team as a senior in 1999. At UMW, Swiney has led the program to consistent improvement and competitive success. With his emphasis on recruiting and culture, Swiney aims to build the Eagles into a conference-champion caliber program that sustains national relevance while developing both student-athletes and young men of character.
