Katrina Gimmaka is an Assistant Coach for the Western Washington University Women’s Basketball program, having joined the staff on July 1, 2024. A former standout Viking, she returned to her alma mater after concluding an impressive collegiate playing career at WWU. During her five seasons as a player, Gimmaka appeared in 125 games — ranking third in program history — and scored 776 career points, with a .497 field‑goal percentage that ranks among the program’s top‑25 all‑time. In her senior year, she earned All‑GNAC honors and shot 58.0 % from the floor, one of the highest single‑season marks in school history. She also helped lead the Vikings to GNAC regular‑season titles in 2021‑22 and 2022‑23, and was part of the 2021‑22 squad that won the NCAA Division II West Regional and finished as national runners‑up. Gimmaka graduated from WWU in 2023 with a degree in kinesiology.
Before returning to Bellingham as a coach, Gimmaka gained experience in youth sports by coaching at Nooksack Valley High School, where she also contributed to volleyball coaching. An Everson, Washington native, she was a standout athlete in high school, earning Northwest Conference MVP and 1A First‑Team All‑State honors. Her familiarity with the WWU program, combined with her work ethic and rapport with student‑athletes, has made her a valuable addition to the coaching staff led by head coach Carmen Dolfo and lead assistant Stacey Turrell. Gimmaka looks forward to helping develop the next generation of Vikings while building on the team’s recent successes.
