Kate Pfeifer is the head coach of the University of Vermont field hockey program in Burlington, Vermont, and entered her 13th season in charge in 2026 after being appointed on January 16, 2014. She has compiled an 88-125 record at Vermont, became the winningest head coach in program history, and led the Catamounts to an America East championship in 2024, the first NCAA tournament appearance in school history that same season, and America East Coaching Staff of the Year recognition in 2025.
Vermont's recent rise under Pfeifer included several landmark seasons. In 2025, the Catamounts finished the regular season 10-7, earned the No. 1 seed for the America East Playoffs, and claimed the program's first share of a regular-season conference title. Vermont scored 45 goals and totaled 122 points, reached the America East championship game for the second straight year, hosted the league tournament for the first time, and led the conference in all-conference selections. Sophia Lefranc was named America East Midfielder of the Year, while Merle Vaandrager earned America East Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Veerle Nijhuis was recognized as Rookie of the Year, and Pfeifer and assistants Marlee McClendon and Haley Buffenbarger were named Coaching Staff of the Year after Vermont posted the league's best goals-against average at 2.24 per game.
