Karlie Burris was named head coach of the Portland State women’s basketball program in April 2025, ushering in a new era for the Vikings as she begins her first season at the helm in 2025–26. Burris arrived in Portland following a highly successful four-year stint as an assistant coach at UNLV, where she helped build one of the most dominant programs in the Mountain West Conference. During her tenure, the Lady Rebels captured four consecutive regular-season titles and three conference tournament championships while posting back-to-back 30-win seasons. The program also returned to national prominence, earning Top 25 rankings for the first time in decades and making multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Known for her player development, Burris coached standout post players, including a two-time conference player of the year and All-America honoree.
Prior to UNLV, Burris gained valuable experience as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Utah State, Cal State Fullerton, and Northern Arizona. She played a key role in developing all-conference players and award winners, while also establishing herself as a strong recruiter, bringing in high-level talent including ESPN Top 100 prospects. Burris began her coaching career at Seattle University and has deep ties to the Pacific Northwest, having played collegiately at the University of Portland where she earned all-conference honors. With a background rooted in both player development and championship culture, Burris brings energy, experience, and a clear vision for elevating Portland State women’s basketball.
