Josh McDermott serves as Assistant Coach for Middle Tennessee State University's Men's Tennis program in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Josh McDermott enters his third season as part of Jimmy Borendame’s staff with the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. He spent the 2023 and 2024 season as an assistant coach at Belmont University. In 2022, he graduated with a masters in Sport Administration.
In the 2026 season, McDermott led the Blue Raiders to the Conference USA championship and an NCAA tournament appearance. This achievement marked his third conference title as an assistant coach and his second with Middle Tennessee. He coached Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak to a No. 18 national ranking in doubles and guided Ondrej Horak and Antoine Mayoral to an undefeated 8-0 record in 2026. During the 2025 season, McDermott helped the Blue Raiders achieve a Conference USA title and a berth into the NCAA tournament. Marking McDermott's second conference title as assistant coach and first with Middle Tennessee. He coached and help the pairing of Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak to a national ranking of No. 40 during the 2025 season. For the 2025 season, six players received 1st Team All-Conferrence honors and four players received 2nd Team All-Conference honors. McDermott served as the interim head coach for the Bruins during the spring season of 2024.
