Josh Hentschel
Assistant Coach
Josh Hentschel is an assistant coach with the University of Alabama in Huntsville men’s basketball program, where he supports head coach Mick Hedgepeth in all aspects of coaching, player development, and recruiting for the Chargers. He was announced as part of the UAH coaching staff in June 2024, bringing a background of collegiate coaching experience and a strong commitment to mentorship and growth for student-athletes. Hentschel’s role includes on-court instruction, strategy development, scouting opponents, and helping create a competitive culture in the Gulf South Conference. His contributions play a significant role in preparing the team both for regular season competition and postseason play.
Before joining UAH, Hentschel spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Lake Superior State University, where he worked closely with players and assisted in coaching duties to improve team performance. Prior to that, he served as a Graduate Assistant of Applied Performance at Liberty University, where he gained practical experience in athletic performance and analytics, and he also spent a season as an assistant coach at Northwood University early in his career. A graduate of Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in sport analytics, Hentschel combines analytical insight with hands-on coaching to support his players’ development on and off the court.
