Jose "Keno" Gandara

Head Coach

Jose “Keno” Gandara has served as the Head Volleyball Coach at the University of Miami since March 2013, becoming only the second head coach since the program’s reinstatement in 2001. Over more than a decade at the helm, Gandara has guided the Hurricanes into one of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s most competitive and consistent programs. Under his leadership, Miami has earned multiple NCAA Tournament berths, including its 13th overall appearance in 2024, which marked the fourth consecutive postseason trip and the eighth NCAA appearance during his tenure. That season, the Hurricanes finished 22–11 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a top-eight seed. The 2024 campaign was highlighted by one of the most significant victories in program history, as Miami upset defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Texas in a dramatic reverse sweep in Austin, earning Gandara his 200th career win and handing the Longhorns their first home loss since 2014. The Hurricanes followed with additional ranked wins over Stanford, Georgia Tech, and Arkansas, solidifying their national profile. Gandara’s teams have consistently produced elite individual performers, including multiple AVCA All-Americans, All-ACC selections, and AVCA All-Region honorees. Known for his competitive edge, player development, and ability to build resilient teams, Gandara has established Miami volleyball as a respected national presence while continuing to raise the program’s competitive ceiling within the ACC.
