Jon Riley is the head coach of Virginia Commonwealth University's men's cross country program in Richmond, Virginia, and in 2025-26 he is in his 16th season leading VCU's men's program and 18th season as head coach of the women's track and field team. He took over the women's program in 2008 and assumed control of the men's team in 2010.
At VCU, Riley has directed one of the most successful stretches in the history of the women's program. His teams have won 11 Atlantic 10 Conference championships, including multiple indoor and outdoor titles between 2015 and 2024. He has also earned Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors eight times. On the men's side, he has kept VCU in contention at the conference level, and in 2016 he led the Rams to a third-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, the program's best result in the league to that point.
