Jonas Piibor
Head Men's Tennis Coach
Jonas Piibor became the head men’s tennis coach at Flagler College in August 2021, taking over a program and quickly elevating it to national prominence. In his first season, he guided the Saints to both the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) regular-season title and a berth in the NCAA Division II national semifinals; the team finished the year ranked No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. Over subsequent seasons he has maintained the program’s high standard: in 2023-24 the team posted a 22-3 overall record, earned both regular and tournament PBC championships, and again reached the national tournament, culminating in a runner-up finish. In 2024-25 he led the Saints to a 20-3 season with an undefeated 5-0 league mark, secured another regular and postseason conference championship, and was honored as PBC Coach of the Year for the third time.
Before arriving at Flagler, Piibor held a three-year stint as head coach at Gonzaga University (2018-21), where he achieved a program-record 16 dual-match wins in his first season and finished his tenure ranked No. 62 nationally. Prior to that he served as associate head coach at the University of Oregon for ten seasons (2008-18), during which the Ducks enjoyed their most successful stretch in 30 years (153-96 record). A player himself, Piibor competed collegiately at Indiana State University (three seasons) and the University of South Alabama (one season). While at Indiana State he was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference first-team selection, the ITA Region V Senior Player of the Year in 2001, and ranked No. 28 nationally in singles. Piibor earned a B.S. in Fitness and Exercise Science (2002) and an M.S. in Adult Fitness (2005), both from Indiana State University. At Flagler, he emphasizes not only winning and elite competition, but also academic achievement and character development — his teams have consistently produced All-Conference, All-Region and All-America honorees under his leadership.
