John Tillman
Head Coach Men's Lacrosse
John Tillman (born circa 1970) is a prominent American lacrosse coach, currently serving as the head men’s lacrosse coach at the University of Maryland. Since taking over the program in 2011, he has guided Maryland to multiple Final Four appearances, eight appearances in the NCAA championship game, and two national titles (2017, 2022). Under his leadership, Maryland has consistently ranked among the top programs in the country in All-American selections, NCAA tournament wins, and postseason performance. Before his Maryland tenure, Tillman spent 12 seasons with the U.S. Naval Academy, rising through the ranks as assistant coach and eventually offensive coordinator, helping lead Navy to multiple NCAA tournament appearances and Patriot League championships. He then coached as head coach at Harvard for three seasons (2008–2010) and improved the program’s competitiveness before being appointed to Maryland. Tillman also played lacrosse at the collegiate and professional levels, including stints with the Baltimore Thunder and Washington Power, and has been active off the field as a voice on social issues and in promoting diversity and inclusion in the sport.
