John Hawks
Head Coach
John Hawks began his tenure as the head coach of the UCLA Bruins men’s volleyball program on October 11, 2024, becoming the third head coach in the program’s history. In his first season (2025), Hawks guided the Bruins to a third-straight NCAA title match appearance, posted a career-best 22 wins as a head coach, and coached four All-Americans. Under his leadership, standout performers such as Cooper Robinson (MPSF Player of the Year), Andrew Rowan, Cameron Thorne and Zach Rama earned major individual honors. Additionally, Hawks serves as head coach of the U21 USA National Team and led that squad to gold at the NORCECA qualifiers, securing a berth in the 2025 World Championships.
Prior to taking the helm at UCLA, Hawks amassed strong credentials as assistant coach at UCLA (2015-22) where he helped guide elite programs and was named the 2022 AVCA National Assistant Coach of the Year. He then served as head coach at Loyola University Chicago (2022-24), where his teams posted a 40-17 record and he earned MIVA Coach of the Year honors in 2023. His coaching resumé also includes stints on the U.S. national team staff, and roles at Long Beach State, USC and UC Irvine.
