John Buttle is the Head Coach of the Bellevue College men’s soccer program, where he has quickly made a significant impact in his leadership role. An alumnus of Bellevue College, Buttle returned to lead the Bulldogs and recently completed his third season as head coach. In 2023, he guided the team to a playoff berth and earned NWAC North Region Coach of the Year honors, highlighting his effectiveness in building a competitive and disciplined squad. His deep connection to the program dates back to his playing days, when he was part of two NWAC Championship teams in 2001 and 2002 under respected coaches Fred Thompson and Chance Fry.
Buttle brings more than a decade of coaching experience across high school, club, and collegiate levels. He previously spent six years at Juanita High School, where he led teams to multiple KingCo championships and state tournament appearances. He has also coached with Eastside FC, a premier club where he developed as a player. A graduate of Concordia University, Buttle was a standout attacking player, winning back-to-back Cascade Collegiate Conference titles and competing in the national tournament. He later earned a master’s degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington. The son of former English professional and Seattle Sounders legend Steve Buttle, he brings a strong soccer pedigree and a commitment to excellence in player development.
