John Becker is the Meghan and Robert Cioffi Men's Basketball Head Coach at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, where he has built the Catamounts into one of the most successful programs in the America East Conference. Introduced as Vermont's head coach on May 20, 2011, Becker became the winningest coach in program history within his first 15 seasons and compiled a 351-144 overall record, including a 203-38 mark in America East play. His tenure has produced seven America East Tournament championships, nine regular-season conference titles, 11 postseason appearances, and an NCAA Tournament victory, while Vermont has reached 20 wins in every full season under his direction.
Becker's record at Vermont places him among the most accomplished coaches in league history. His teams won America East tournament titles in 2012, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024, and secured regular-season crowns in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. He has been named America East Coach of the Year seven times, in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2024, a conference record. He also earned National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District I Coach of the Year recognition five times, collected two U.S. Basketball Writers Association District I Coach of the Year honors, was chosen ECAC Coach of the Year in 2017, and was recognized nationally as a finalist for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award and the Hugh Durham Award on multiple occasions. In 2018, he was selected by CollegeMadness.com as its Mid-Major Coach of the Year.
