Joe Norton
Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Joe Norton is an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Princeton University men’s volleyball, bringing extensive EIVA experience and a strong player-development background to the Tigers’ program. A native of Eden, New York, Norton joined Princeton after eight seasons on the coaching staff at George Mason University, where he played a key role in one of the most successful stretches in program history. During his tenure with the Patriots, George Mason posted its best-ever conference record with a 13–1 EIVA season in 2018, and Norton helped coach multiple All-EIVA performers, including two first-team selections in that standout year.
Before transitioning into coaching, Norton was a student-athlete at George Mason from 2008 to 2012, competing as an outside hitter. Over his collegiate career, he recorded 362 kills across 82 matches and was particularly known for his serving ability, finishing with 41 career aces. After earning his bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2012, he completed a master’s degree in international sport management in 2014. Norton began his coaching career with the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association, where he served as head coach of the U17 team and later as the organization’s strength and conditioning coordinator.
In 2016, Norton returned to George Mason as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, where he spent eight seasons refining his skills in recruiting, match preparation, and athlete development. His coaching approach emphasizes work ethic, tactical awareness, and positive team culture, qualities that align closely with Princeton volleyball’s values. Joining the Tigers following an EIVA championship run, Norton adds energy, conference familiarity, and a strong recruiting presence as Princeton continues to compete for league titles and national recognition.
