Joel Gordon
Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
Joel Gordon joined the Auburn University football staff in December 2025 as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach, bringing more than 23 years of coaching experience to the program. He followed head coach Alex Golesh to Auburn after three successful seasons at the University of South Florida, where he served as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2023 before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. During his time in Tampa, Gordon helped guide one of the nation’s most dynamic offenses, averaging more than 450 yards and 35.5 points per game across a 38-game stretch. The 2025 Bulls finished second nationally in total offense and fourth in scoring, showcasing Gordon’s ability to develop explosive, high-efficiency attacks.
Renowned for quarterback development, Gordon played a pivotal role in the rise of USF’s Byrum Brown, who became one of only a handful of FBS quarterbacks to surpass 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. Prior to USF, Gordon spent seven seasons at Iowa State, helping transform the Cyclones into a consistent bowl team and contributing to a Big 12 Championship Game appearance and a New Year’s Six bowl victory. A former record-setting quarterback at Shepherd University, Gordon began his coaching career as a graduate assistant and has built a reputation for elevating programs at every level. He and his wife, Becca, have two children.
